X-Men: The Movie
Prequel - Magneto An interesting effort that attempts to delve into the background of the movie-continuity Magneto, with reference to the origins of Charles Xavier and Xavier's school. Pruett's script expands on the Holocaust elements utilised in the movie, establishing Erik Lensherr as fatally damaged by his experiences as a child -- which leads to a brief partnership with Xavier, followed by a dramatic rift when a specter from the past triggers an obsessive desire for revenge. In the end Xavier is left maintaining that peaceful work is the only solution, while Magneto begins his career as a terrorist. The book is by no means perfect -- the timeline is a bit odd, and the Texeira/Palmiotti artwork is sometimes quite rough. It would also be nice to have more of the background filled in -- the jumps in story time would certainly be less jarring. As a movie tie-in, though, not too bad, though pricey ©2000 by Steven E.
